چکیده

We develop the first-order gradient correction to the exchange-correlation free energy of the homogeneous electron gas for use in finite-temperature density functional calculations. Based on this, we propose and implement a simple temperature-dependent extension for functionals beyond the local density approximation. These finitetemperature functionals show improvement over zero-temperature functionals, as compared to path-integral Monte Carlo calculations for deuterium equations of state, and perform without computational cost increase compared to zero-temperature functionals and so should be used for finite-temperature calculations. While the present functionals are valid at all temperatures including zero, non-negligible difference with zero-temperature functionals begins at temperatures above 10 000 K.

London dispersion forces by range-separated hybrid density functional with second order perturbational corrections: the case of rare gas complexes.

A satisfactory account of the van der Waals (vdW) (London dispersion) forces is, in general not possible by the Kohn-Sham method using standard local, semilocal generalized gradient approximation (GGA), or meta-GGA density functionals. The recently proposed range-separated hybrid (RSH) approach, supplemented by second order perturbational corrections (MP2) to include long-range dynamic correlat...

Accurate Density Functional with Correct Formal Properties: A Step Beyond the Generalized Gradient Approximation

We approximate the exchange-correlation energy of density functional theory as a controlled extrapolation from the slowly varying limit. While generalized gradient approximations (GGA’s) require only the local density and its first gradient as input, our meta-GGA also requires the orbital kinetic energy density. Its exchange energy component recovers the fourth-order gradient expansion, while i...

The London free-energy is regeneralized by the Ginsburg-Landau free-energy density in the presence of both d and s order parameters. We have shown that the strength of the s-d coupling, makes an important rule to determine the form of the lattice vortex. Appearance of the ratios of the coherence length to penetration depth in the higher order corrections of the free-energy density will trunca...

Ab initio DFT+U study of He atom incorporation into UO(2) crystals.

We present and discuss results of the density functional theory (DFT) for perfect UO(2) crystals with He atoms in octahedral interstitial positions therein. We have calculated basic bulk crystal properties and He incorporation energies into the low temperature anti-ferromagnetic UO(2) phase using several exchange-correlation functionals within the spin-polarized local density (LDA) and generali...

Orbital-Free Density Functional Theory for Molecular Structure Calculations

We give here an overview of the orbital-free density functional theory that is used for modeling atoms and molecules. We review typical approximations to the kinetic energy, exchange-correlation corrections to the kinetic and Hartree energies, and constructions of the pseudopotentials. We discuss numerical discretizations for the orbital-free methods and include several numerical results for il...
